Close your eyes and dream of the classic Tuscan villa and you will probably have Villa Donata in your mind. This stone-built villa is immersed in the Chianti hills and as you snake your way along the ‘white road’ which leads you to it you pass the immaculate vineyards, rise up and down the slopes and through shaded woods. The road then drops into the Villa grounds and opens up to reveal this wonderful villa and gardens.
Sweeping views from the garden provide the perfect backdrop. You are in contact with nature and the beauty of Tuscany and nearby you are in touch with the great culture of Florence, Siena and the villages of Chianti.
This property is divided into two houses, the main villa and the smaller cottage. The main villa has a delightful covered dining area at the front and this enjoys open views over the rolling Chianti hills. The main entrance leads you to the superb kitchen and dining room. The owners run a nearby famous restaurant and the kitchen reflects this love of cooking. The rest of the ground floor is made up of a huge living room, complete with grand piano, bar area and living room. There is also a toilet with bidet and wash-basin on the ground floor.
Internal stairs lead to the first floor and here are all 6 bedrooms – 4 double bedrooms, one double/twin and one single room. All bedrooms are en-suite and one has a bathtub (all the other bathrooms have showers). On the first floor there is a second kitchen and spacious living room which enjoys views across the valley and surrounding grounds.
Located next to the stunning pool there is a two bedroom cottage. This single-storey house is light and airy with French windows which open out onto the pool area. There are two bedrooms, one double and one double/twin. One family bathroom and an open plan kitchen/living room which lead out onto the pool area.
The pool is the place where you will spend most of your time, basking in the hot Tuscan sun and playing around in the water. There is a lovely jacuzzi pool which has a marvellous waterfall feature which is guaranteed to entertain for hours.
Villa Donata is not the easiest villa to get to, with about 3 kilometres of reasonable ‘white road’ and a steep final approach. However, having said this it is a truly special place to stay and we are pretty sure that you will not be wanting to leave. The nearest village of Badia a Passignano has a great selection of super restaurants (three great places to eat in a village of only about 10 houses!). You are sure to also visit the owner’s restaurant which enjoys some of the best views in Tuscany and people flock from around the world to dine here and taste his classic Tuscan dishes. All the villages of Chianti are reachable and Florence and Siena will certainly be on your itinerary. But we are sure that Villa Donata will be the highlight of your trip to Tuscany.
