Castello di Fonterutoli embodies all that is Tuscany and Chianti. This small hamlet is drenched in history and surrounded by fabulous rolling hills filled with vineyards and olive groves. Castello di Fonterutoli has been the heart and soul of the Marchesi Mazzei family and wine-production for nearly 600 years. Owned by the family since 1435 the estate still retains its original form, that of a tranquil country village, surrounded by 650 hectares of wood, vineyards and olive groves. A cluster of houses, the church of San Miniato and the villa, built at the end of the 1500s, tell the story of a family deeply rooted in the Tuscan tradition.
Located in the hamlet 12 rooms have been restored to provide chic and stylish accommodation for the discerning traveller. An added bonus is that the family-owned wine cellar and Osteria are right on your doorstep. All the rooms are designed and decorated with great style and reflect the colours and countryside of this wonderful region of Tuscany. The Osteria serves delicious meals prepared with local produce and gives you a chance to sit back and enjoy the wonderful wines from the Mazzei vineyard without worrying about your journey home.
Having said this Castello di Fonterutoli is ideally located to visit such gems as Siena, Florence and San Gimignano and also the small beautifully cared for villages that dot the horizon at every turn – Radda, Greve, Panzona, Castellina to name a few. We are sure that the chic style and wonderful hospitality at Castello di Fonterutoli will make you yearn to return.
