Spina Santa, Sicily
Superb location right on the beach, simply and stylishly furnished with a super covered, decked terrace and steps that lead directly onto the sand.
Arrival day: Saturday Car hire: Recommended
The Beach House is exactly that – a simple apartment located right on the sandy beach of Spina Santa – a rare luxury for those of you looking to soak up the sunshine throughout the day and enjoy the sound of the waves lapping the shore as the sky turns from bright blue with the odd fluffy cloud to dark blue studded with sparkling stars. The wooden steps lead from the little terrace via some decking straight on to the beach so bare feet are the order of the day with warm sand between your toes – just magical!
The private and curtained terrace will probably be the most used part of the house as from here you can gaze out at all times of day watching the movement of the sea and the gentle comings and goings of visitors to the beach. Early morning swims are the best as you will have the glittering sea to yourself as you plunge in before your breakfast which is just 20 metres away! The terrace leads into a compact living area with a sofa on one side and an open plan kitchen on the other – here you will be able to try your hand at some tasty Italian cookery as we are pretty sure you will not want to leave this glorious spot especially with such a great panorama from the dining table outside. There is a small hob with 2 gas rings, a dishwasher and a fridge freezer so pasta dishes, risottos, salads, local ricotta cakes and lots of cold wine may be prepared and stored easily.
From the living room, you access the bedroom which has been interestingly furnished with two French size beds (these are midway between a single and a double). The decor consists of whitewashed walls, wooden floors and some colourful stripey blue and red cushions – the perfect combination for a house on the beach. A second tiny bedroom is home to bunk beds but with little space for anything else. The small shower room is in fact equipped with a good size shower unit, WC, bidet and basin. White curtains blow in the breeze both inside and out giving the house a romantic and spacious feeling.
A second little terrace is located at the back of the accommodation that is perfect for escaping the sun and for taking a shower, perfect for rinsing off the salt after umpteen dips in the salty water or long walks along the seashore.
Should you wish for a day away from the beach (unlikely!) then there is plenty to see and do in the immediate area. The village of Donnalucata is close by and the lively seaside town of Marina di Ragusa is just a 20-minute drive away where you will also find a great selection of restaurants and shops. The historic Baroque towns of Scicli, Modica and Ibla are also within easy reach and are really worth a quick visit if you can pull yourself away from your wonderful base.
If you are looking for a true beach holiday, with a slight Robinson Crusoe feel to it, The Beach House is for you – make sure you pack your swimming gear, flip-flops and not much else!

Excellent directions to the property and background information on holidays in Italy. Fabio was an excellent owner and took great care to check several times that we were OK. Daniela was easily contactable and extremely helpful. The property actually had more facilities than the description on the website e.g. it has a 4 burner hob, an oven and a washing machine! We had a lovely holiday and were very impressed with your property. We would certainly book with you again.

Fantastic! Would highly recommend… one of the best located properties we have ever stayed in!

Just a quick line to say how much we loved our return to The Beach House… often it’s a mistake to go back to somewhere you’ve loved, not in this case! Fabio was so welcoming and generous and seemed genuinely glad to see us again. Almost daily gifts of figs, melon, apples, a jar of his homemade and bottled passata and a bottle of Prossecco (locally made) came our way, but at no time was he intrusive. Utter peace and utter bliss. And this time we often walked along the beach into Donnalucata – easy walking and much nicer than taking the car. I was sure, when we visited in June, that we would return and so it has proved. We’re not laying any bets against a third visit early next year!
