Casal dei Fichi, Le Marche
An intimate group of six apartments in the beautiful rolling hills of Le Marche, offering relaxing, peaceful and tranquil calm, with authentic Italian heart-warming hospitality.
Arrival day: Saturday Car hire: Recommended
The intimate group of six apartments encompasses all that Le Marche stands for. Beautiful rural location, calm, peaceful and heart-warming hospitality. The owners Bob and Ian chased their dream 10 years ago and their vision and determination has ensured that Casal dei Fichi is the ideal spot for those people looking for relaxation and an Italian holiday away from the crowds.
The six apartments are all named after famous sons of Le Marche; Rossini, Bramante, Ricci, Orsini, Raffaello and Leopardi. The modern kitchens with oak cabinets and granite work surfaces are all equipped with full oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, coffee makers and all the cooking utensils you expect to find at home. The bedrooms have king size, large twin or emperor size (2.5m wide!) beds and the bathrooms have large luxury powerful showers.
All apartments also have their own private garden or terrazza with table and chairs for outdoor dining. The thick brick walls provide excellent insulation and each double glazed window is equipped with fly screens and external shutters which make the apartments cool and airy in the hot summer months.
The apartments are non-smoking, private parking is provided and there is free access to a laundry room. The apartments are cleaned weekly with fresh bed linen, towels and pool towels provided. Two of the apartments (Rossini and Raffaello) can be linked internally to accommodate two families or friends.
As lovely as the apartments are you will probably spend most of your time will be spent outdoors, lounging by the wonderful pool or relaxing in the well-kept grounds. The large pool (heated by solar panels) is ideally located to make the most of the wonderful views and all day sun.
Casal dei Fichi is situated centrally in Marche halfway between the coast and the mountains and also equidistant from two of the largest renaissance cities in the region, Urbino in the north and Ascoli Piceno in the south. Closer by are Macerata 20 minutes to the north and Fermo, 20 minutes to the south-east. All these cities are worthy of a visit if you are interested in history, renaissance or baroque art, galleries and museums, beautiful architecture, live theatre, shopping, fine dining or simply enjoy the pleasures of Italian life.
Le Marche is still very much undiscovered and the roads and attractions are relatively quiet so you can be assured that your holiday is not likely to be one of a heavily worn tourist trail. There are literally hundreds of medieval hilltop towns to explore, each with its own unique flavour and interest. For us one of the great pleasures has been to explore some of these fascinating villages, be entertained by the local event or attraction and then have a lazy lunch or dinner in a nearby restaurant.
The village of Francavilla d’Ete is only 2 kilometres from Casal dei Fichi and has a walled medieval centre, a picturesque place to start your exploration of Marche. Francavilla has all the essentials you will need for your stay a grocer, chemist, general store, newsagent, bank, bakers and three bars. There is also an excellent restaurant serving local dishes, pizzas and great wine at inexpensive prices. Here you will be assured a friendly welcome and a relaxed atmosphere and you can be sure it's good when all the locals go there!
The charming owners live onsite and are a mine of useful local information and they have a very friendly dog.
