Great family villa immersed in luscious private gardens, with wonderful views from the pool over the rolling Umbria countryside and the valley below.
Arrival day: Saturday Car hire: Recommended
Villa Petroia is located in the rolling countryside to the North of Perugia and is the ideal villa for those looking for a family getaway and a base from where to explore the beauties of Umbria. The stone built villa has been home to a British family for the past 10 years and now we are lucky enough to offer it as a great family holiday villa.
The spacious villa is surrounded by luscious private gardens and the pool enjoys fabulous views over the valley below. We are sure that the pool will be greatly enjoyed by children and adults alike. The house is about 10 metres from the pool and therefore you can sit back and enjoy a delicious lunch and keep your eyes on your children playing in the pool.
The ground floor of the house is dominated by the huge living room which is made up of a dining area, although you will probably enjoy your meals outside, and a comfortable living room with sofas. To one side of the house is the stylish and excellently equipped kitchen. Having been a family house for many years the quality of the kitchen is excellent and for keen chefs, it will be a joy.
The ground floor is completed by a library and bathroom with a bathtub.
On the first floor of the villa, there are two large double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms. They are all a good size and enjoy views over the gardens. There are two bathrooms with showers. In the basement, there is a laundry room.
The furnishings in the villa are of top quality and much of the owner's artwork is on display, all of which adds to the feeling of a lived-in and welcoming home.
Although being in a rural location Villa Petroia is well positioned to explore much of Umbria. The fabulous towns of Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi and Spoleto are all nearby and certainly worth a day trip. Add to this a host of smaller less visited villages and we are sure that you will be sad to leave Villa Petroia and keen to book again for the following summer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Petroia. Libero cleaned the pool daily to make sure we would start the day with a pristine swim in the morning. Zaira and Beatrice were so kind to arrange for us to obtain tickets for an FC Perugia match during our stay! The home pressed olive oil and home made red wine we were given were both delicious. My only reservation was that large wasps were obviously nesting nearby (not a shocker, it is in the open countryside) and often came down through the chimney which was sometimes scary for the kids. Some mechanism to seal off the chimney when it's not being used in summer would be great. All the appliances were in perfect working order and the kitchen was a delight, with its practical layout and ease of use. We will definitely consider Villa Petroia again. August 2019

Beautiful villa, large, very well maintained and clean. Kitchen was extremely well equipped and was spacious. Bathrooms were also fresh and airy. Great to see so many interesting books on shelves and so many DVDs. Driving down a small winding road and arriving at Villa Petroia was a pleasure. The views are stunning and the villa is far enough away to feel secluded yet near enough for conveniences such as grocery shopping. The pool was cleaned early every morning which was marvellous. We were never in need of anything once at the villa. Altogether a very memorable and wonderful trip for our family. Truly.

Villa Petroia was a fabulous villa and we felt welcomed into a family home. It was a privilege and pleasure to stay there. We felt really restored by our holiday. Wonderful location - peaceful, secluded and beautiful views. Well placed for local amenities and exploring Umbria. This place allows one to step sufficiently into more remote countryside to feel a sense of escape. Thank-you to the Essential Italy team for another wonderful holiday - we are all very grateful for your help in finding the perfect escape. I would thoroughly recommend Essential Italy.

Villa Petroia is a beautiful spacious house which exceeded our expectations. Thank you Ian for recommending it! ...fabulous library, large well equipped kitchen, stylish comfortable lounge, lovely grounds/gardens with large pool, glorious views. We spent a lot of time swimming and dining outside, it was everything we could have wanted! The house is in a beautiful rural setting, an easy drive to Gubbio for shopping and other lovely towns such as Assisi, Spello, Montefalco, Montone... close to some good restaurants such as Oasis Verde and Castello Petroia, we spotted a large group of wild boar on our way back one evening and our garden was lit up with fire flies! There are also nice walks from the villa. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer.
