Casa Wasa is perhaps the most characterful of all the original villas overlooking the crystal blue sea and the small sandy bay at Porto Rafael. Unaltered with time, this wonderful villa is in the most perfect position and makes a great holiday home offering space, wonderful terrace with stunning views and complete privacy. Many good parties have been held here in the past, and we see no reason not to continue this great tradition!
A steep, private driveway leads down to the villa. The front door takes you into the large lounge with dining table (which we can almost guarantee will never be used) and seating area with comfy sofas and alcove with TV. A large separate kitchen leads from one end of the lounge and is equipped with fridge-freezer, hob, oven and dishwasher. Leading off the kitchen is a great breakfast room with the most amazing views (almost worth encountering a rare cloudy day to make use of this lovely spot!). At the far end of the lounge, you will find 1 twin and 1 double bedroom with a shared shower room and a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom. A very small single room with WC is situated near the front door.
The terrace that sits in front of the house facing the sea is like a courtyard ensuring privacy and sunshine. French doors lead out onto this huge, super outdoor area where you will undoubtedly while away the hours sunning yourselves, drinking in the view, drinking up the wine and enjoying long leisurely alfresco meals at the large, covered rustic dining table. Huge granite rocks form a natural barrier to one side of the terrace overlooking the bay where there is a barbecue, the view making grilling some local fish or spare ribs even more enjoyable. A pathway leads directly down to the sea-level piazza at Porto Rafael with easy access directly to the beach, bar and restaurant.
Adding to the above features, Casa Wasa has the further advantage of its own small jetty. A set of granite steps lead down to the sea and a natural tiny, rocky bay with jetty from where you may swim or just sit with your toes in the water and admire the passing super-yachts. For the more adventurous, 2 sea kayaks are included in the rental giving you the opportunity to explore the coastline for yourselves.
Please note: the furnishings and fittings in Casa Wasa are not modern. The villa has a characterful, old-fashioned feel that really should not be updated as it is part of its unique charm. The only part of the house that has been brought up-to-date are the bathrooms. We recommend the house for both families and friends alike, but be aware the steps down to the jetty are not gated from the terrace, so you'll need to keep a careful eye on any small children and/or toddlers.

Casa Wasa is lovely. Sarah is also lovely, as usual. We return each year. However Casa Wasa is slightly let down by the bathrooms. The floors flood when you take a shower in all 3 bathrooms and there are no hooks on the doors to hang towels or bathrobes. Apart from that it is lovely. June 2019

Booking process was friendly, clear and straightforward. Villa was spacious, very tastefully furnished and very clean although showing a few signs of wear and tear in places. The kitchen was well equipped, and functioned without any problems. There was plenty of hot water. We particularly enjoyed the big sunny terrace and access to swimming and kayaking from the private jetty just below the terrace. The views across to La Maddalena and the other islands were beautiful, the villa was pleasantly secluded, although very close to the centre of Porto Raphael. Miriam was a delight – very intelligent, friendly, charming and helpful. We loved the boat trip she organised for us.

Perfect! Private, beautiful views, not too far from nightlife should you wish to partake. Love the jetty & kayaks too! Porto Rafael is a lovely community & Palau the perfect size for holiday needs. With the Maddalenas, Corsica & Arzachena (archaeological sites) all on the doorstep and several mainland beaches also only a short drive away, it all adds up to perfection! All in all we have had a fabulous stay at Casa Wasa and will be rebooking with you again next year! Thank you!

A stunning location, great sea views and independent access to the sea. Also, very conveniently located, just a stone's throw from a couple of bars and a supermarket. We were very well looked after in Porto Rafael. Both Sarah and Miriam were very welcoming and attentive, and really helped to make our holiday a very memorable one. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Essential Italy to friends and family. At every stage, we felt very well looked after and the accommodation and surrounding area were wonderful. After we have had the pleasure of getting to know eight different houses in Porto Rafael which were all extremely beautiful and very unique, this year we fell in love with Casa Wasa. This is the most beautiful spot we have ever been to. A maximum of privacy, excellent location, private access to the sea and architecture at its best. We didn't leave the house the whole day (except for the obligatory coffee at Harry's of course) until dinner because it was just so relaxing. There is a special spirit over this great little spot which we got in touch with for the first time this year. Very special people and a great history. Certainly coming back as soon as possible.
