Original masseria located at Baia dei Turchi surrounded by grape vines and pine woods, just 4 kilometres from Otranto with super pool and the beach just 400 metres away.
Arrival day: Any Car hire: Recommended
Masseria Mongiò dates back to the late 1400s when the Turks arrived by sea and took refuge here before invading Otranto. This lovely building is set in a magnificent position surrounded by corn fields, grape vines and pine woods giving an instantly calming effect on arrival. The super owner is conscious of keeping his Masseria as eco-friendly as possible and you will not find manicured lawns but you will find the trees and plants left to grow as nature fully intended.
The two buildings are home to 12 rooms – all different in shape and size but all classed as Junior Suites and Suites as each one is composed of a double bedroom and a separate sitting room with a double sofa bed. The creams and whites create a soft ambiance to these newly created rooms and all have en-suite shower rooms, air conditioning, heating, WiFi, TV and minibar. Some of the rooms are on two floors with a staircase linking the double bedroom and en-suite shower room upstairs and the sitting room on ground level. The thoughtful owner has also added a tiny kitchenette – perfect for tea and coffee or light meals making it a real bonus particularly if you are travelling with children, and you will find a good bottle of local wine to welcome you on arrival.
The large covered terrace looks out across the pretty countryside and here you can enjoy some very tasty fare prepared by the hotel chef. Breakfast is a buffet of fresh fruits, hams, cheeses and home-made pastries and there is a daily menu for both lunch and dinner. The large pool sits to the right of the terrace and is surrounded with sun-loungers and umbrellas.
A short walk across the nearby cornfield and through the pine wood takes you to the beautiful beach where you can bathe in the sea before setting off for some sight-seeing or reserve sun-beds and an umbrella and laze the day away watching the horizon!
There is a good selection of bikes (including smaller ones for children) at the Masseria for the use of the guests and you can cycle along a quiet road that runs along the coast all the way to Otranto or take one of the cycle routes to visit nearby Lake Alimini.
Masseria Mongiò offers a truly peaceful and relaxing time whether you are passing through or planning on a longer stay in this beautiful part of Puglia.

The rooms were perfect and the small kitchen area was wonderful to use. On the plus side, we were not aware that the first night's meal was complementary except for drinks, this was a lovely surprise. The food was excellent. It also encouraged us to eat at the Masseria during our stay. We’re just delighted customers again. Thank you all.
