Description

This super B&B is located in the heart of fascinating Matera - often referred to as the third oldest town in the world. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you can leave this peaceful haven and walk the narrow streets marvelling at this unique and completely magical town. Centred around a pretty internal courtyard, most of the rooms at Corte San Pietro are housed in the famous ‘Sassi’, better known as caves, where until relatively recently, extended families along with their livestock lived.

Corte San Pietro has been beautifully restored keeping as many of the original features as possible but at the same time bringing it into the 21st century. The style and decor are charming and each of the 12 rooms is different in size and furnishing but they are all beautifully designed. The walls have been painted white and local cream stone has been used in many of the bathrooms – crisp white bed linen gives a cool and chic feel. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, heating, WiFi, TV and mini bar.

The pretty breakfast room has been personalised by many possessions, pictures, photos, books and other collectible items giving you lots to study whilst enjoying the rich buffet along with some strong Italian coffee to set you up for the day. Underneath the building are 8 interlinked cisterns once used to collect rainwater and now undergoing a series of careful renovations to make them into a rather special wellbeing centre. Fernando, the most hospitable owner, will be more than happy to give you a tour if you wish to visit this underground labyrinth.

If Matera is not yet on your wish list then it should be along with a stay at Corte San Pietro – you will not be disappointed.
