This wonderful Masseria dates back to the 18th century and has been carefully restored with the intentions of reconnecting man with the cycles of the universe. The refurbishments have ensured that the principles of bio-architecture and feng-shui have been applied making an oasis of peace and calm. The impressive thick walls and the 40 chimney stacks make a great impression as you arrive at Lama di Luna which is situated in the middle of 190 hectares of land filled with olive trees, grape vines, almond and cherry orchards.
The 'bio' theme has been innovatively carried through the building with solar panels to provide hot water plus a boiler that burns olive stones should the sun not be hot enough (unlikely in Puglia!), beds made in natural wood and facing north, linen and towels in natural cotton, soaps produced from olive oil thus ensuring that as much energy as possible can flow around the hotel and also around you during your stay.
The entrance takes you into the large walled courtyard – once the gates are closed you can imagine how safe the original inhabitants must have felt. The rooms once used by the farmers and traders that originally lived here have been turned into elegant bedrooms, all spacious and full of light. Local materials have been used for the furnishings creating a very warm and comfortable environment. Exposed brick walls, fireplaces and warm tones of beige and yellow are to be found throughout along with the original tiled floor.
The 12 rooms are all slightly different:
Torretta – double/twin room that once belonged to the guard of the masseria with en-suite shower room.
Coloni – double/twin room with en-suite shower room.
Murgia – double room with vaulted ceilings and en-suite bathroom.
Suite – double/twin room, separate sitting room with 2 single sofa beds and en-suite bathroom with aero-massage bath and shower.
Suite Benessere – double room, sitting room with 1 single sofa bed (these 2 areas divided by an arch), Jacuzzi in front of the fireplace, grotto with Turkish bath and shower. En-suite shower room.
All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, TV, minibar and wi.fi.
A well stocked library give you time to ponder in peace some great volumes – even if your Italian is not so good there are plenty of pictures to study, and a large terrace
Excellent information about location and general description of the Villa was right on. Helen and Louise did a great job. They promptly answered any questions that we had. We would strongly encourage other guests from the USA to consider using Essential Italy to book a Villa.
