This wonderful and original hotel has been recently restored making a visit even more worthwhile during your stay in Puglia. Matera, better known as the city of the ‘Sassi’, is the home to the most original valley dwellings, churches and frescoed chapels, most of which are carved out of the rock itself. The rooms in the hotel will ensure you have an unforgettable experience in a high-class cave dwelling!

The labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways means that the bedrooms are accessed externally, are found on different levels and all enjoy a spectacular panoramic view overlooking courtyards and small town squares. Updated somewhat from the time of the original cave dwellers, the charming rooms offer all modern facilities including private bath/shower room, heating/air conditioning, satellite TV, safe and mini-bar.

A restaurant and two bars are to be found within the hotel where you may enjoy a glass of superb local spumante and tasty local fare after a hard day of wandering around the fascinating streets and imagining just how the town must have been centuries ago. An after dinner liquer on one of the terraces is not to be missed as by night the town is beautifully illuminated giving you a fairy tale finish to the day.

We can strongly recommend a short stay at this hotel any time during the year – the hospitality is warm and welcoming and you will be fascinated by this truly original part of Puglia which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The holiday was superb – a beautiful area of Italy with great food, lovely historic villages and towns and great accommodation. In particular I'd like to say thank you to you personally for all the help you gave regarding our endless queries about cots, highchairs, suitability of accommodation for a little child etc. It was really great and we'll definitely be booking again in the future. The whole experience from start to finish was excellent.
