Puglia
Puglia, the heel of the great boot remains undiscovered by mass tourism. Over the past few years the quality of holiday accommodation on offer has increased rapidly and now Essential Italy has many private villas, apartments for rental and a selection of quality hotels in our portfolio. Puglia is Italy’s largest olive oil producing region and much of the landscape is dominated by marvelous olive groves.
Puglia remains largely untouched by modernism and frenetic modern life. Many of those who live here bemoan this apparent lack of development, however for us visitors it is a blessing. Food and wine, as in much of Italy, play a fundamental role in everyday life.
Puglia has much to offer. There are large towns such as Bari and Lecce which house some wonderful architecture – in fact Lecce is know as ‘the Florence of the South’ and Bari’s seafront promenade is truly wonderful. The smaller villages such as Alberobello, Cisternino, Martina Franca, Locorotondo and the wonderful town of Ostuni all offer great places to explore and a host of watering holes.
The extensive coastline ranges from long sandy beaches to sandy coves and to dramatic cliffs. We are proud to present Puglia and are sure its charms will entice our guests to return.
