Mascaratu is a very special property in a unique setting and at Essential Italy are thrilled to have it on our website. The villa stands alone in the spectacular Sardinian countryside approximately 7 kilometres from Palau making it a real retreat for those of you looking for a very tranquil holiday.

Mascaratu is to be found at the end of a track in the middle of paradise – pine trees, oaks and oleanders line the drive giving some welcome shade in the hotter months.The typical whitewashed farm building sits high up and the views across the valley to the emerald sea are just amazing – they are framed by the rocky granite hills and lush green vegetation.

The villa, simply furnished and unpretentious throughout, has a spacious and comfortable lounge area with long terrace that overlooks the unruly gardens land, over the sparkling blue pool and onto the islands of the Archipelago of La Maddalena. Just sitting here all day and contemplating nature, with a glass of chilled Vermentino and some local olives would make for a happy holiday in our opinion! The open plan kitchen has not been updated for the modern-day chef, but has everything you could need for rustling up a great “pastasciutta” with gas hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. 

The bedrooms are well positioned for family or friends alike – a double bedroom with en suite bathroom leads off one end of the lounge and a twin bedroom with further bathroom leads off the other end. Both bedrooms have doors that open on to the terrace, so you may make the most of the fantastic view first thing in the morning and enjoy the wonderful perfumed air late at night, before falling into bed. The third bedroom is accessed externally and has 2 twin beds and a WC. 

The villa sits in many acres of private land that you may roam to your hearts content. The Mediterranean vegetation is outstanding, and a gentle stroll makes for a very pleasant activity before or after a dip in the pool. The original tennis court is no longer standing but is now home to a great space for playing a bit of Italian style football – lots of shouting and lying down holding your knee... after all, you cannot disturb anyone!

Mascaratu is a true hideaway and a fabulous villa where you can recharge your batteries at your own speed whether you are travelling alone, with children or with friends. The villa has a charm that takes you back in time, and we are sure that once you have tried it, you might well come back again and again.
