Hotel Piccolo Mondo truly reflects its name of Little World sitting on a magnificent part to the southern Puglia coastline between the rocks and the glittering blue Adriatic sea – difficult to find a better location. The panorama is so mesmerising that you may not leave this oasis for the length of your stay but should you wish to explore the fascinating Salento, you are very well placed at this hotel.
The hotel is laid out on the hill side with steps that lead down from the road to the reception. The rooms are dotted around the main part of Piccolo Mondo with steps and external corridors that constantly allow you flashes of the vibrant sea view. Olive trees and brightly coloured bougainvillea flowers fill the terraces and many of the rooms have covered furnished terraces and superb vistas of the horizon across the sea.
Simply furnished with cool colours, the rooms are different in size and décor and you are aware that you are the Pugliese seaside at all times. Air-conditioning, minibar, en-suite shower room, WiFi, TV and hair drier are common to all rooms and some have extras such as showers on the terrace and Jacuzzis in the bathroom.
The beautiful pool is found on the lowest terrace of the hotel and here you can easily pass a day just staring at the amazing views with a glass of chilled white wine from the poolside bar, lazing under an umbrella on one of the many sunbeds. Of course a cooling dip is obligatory and perhaps even a few lengths?
Should you wish to swim in the sea from the hotel, you may take the 193 steps down the cliff-side to the wonderful water below. Diving into the sea from the rocky platform is not to be missed – a truly unique experience – and the climb back up will work up your appetite for a tasty lunch.
Hotel Piccolo Mondo has a great restaurant with a super terrace where you will start the day with a buffet breakfast, great coffee and, of course, the view you will never tire of. Light lunches are served here and dinner is a real treat especially if the moon is in the right position.
Should you wish to see a little more of stunning Salento, the medieval seaside town of Castro is just one kilometre away, the amazing Zinzulusa Grottos are just 5 minutes along the coast and the most southerly point of Santa Maria di Leuca is a leisurely drive away.
