Essential Italy

In the Sabina Mountains to the north east of Rome, Casa La Farfalla nestles amongst olive groves with views to the charming Abbey of Farfa. Some of the best olive oil in Italy comes from this region – the owners produce their own fabulous organic olive oil.

This lovely house is ideal for a family holiday for those people looking for genuine Italy. This area of Lazio is rarely touched by foreign tourists, and yet towns such as Rieti and Tivoli are of exceptional interest. The trip into Rome is by train, the nearest station is 20 minutes away by car and the service is frequent. A hectic day in Rome, followed by a relaxing glass of wine by the pool... perfect. Slightly further afield, visits to Orvieto, Lake Bracciano and Todi will ensure that you return home fully rested and with lots to remember.

The house includes a large patio with table and chairs, from which steps lead up to the house. Entry is into a comfortable dining / living room (satellite TV). The kitchen leads off this room and is equipped with hobs, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and small oven. The bathroom with shower is also off the living room and the house is completed by one double bedroom and one twin room.

The owners, who live next door, produce marvellous organic olive oil and their belief in nature and its products has led them to install an ‘organic’ swimming pool. This means that the pool is completely self cleaning – using the plants and sands – and is like swimming in a freshwater lake. We believe that this type of pool will become ever more popular, they require no chemicals and merge into the natural environment.

Combine this immersion into nature (wonderful local cheese and meat available) with the vicinity to Rome, and other lesser-known attractions, and we believe that Casa La Farfalla offers a fabulous alternative view of Italy, off the beaten track.
