Description

We are thrilled to be able to offer you Casa Calandra, a stunning contemporary villa designed by its English architect owner situated just outside Ostuni ‘La Citta Bianca’ (the White City). The house is built into the brow of a sloping site of two and a half acres and offers fabulous views over the surrounding countryside.

Entry into the house is up a few external steps leading straight into the upper floor spacious open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. The modern kitchen is well equipped with everything a budding chef may need, including a fabulous view to distract you from the cooking through floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The glass doors run along the length of the kitchen, dining and lounge area taking full advantage of the panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Through an archway in the stone wall to the right of the front door, there is a twin/double room and a second bedroom with a comfortable double sofa bed; these two rooms share a bathroom with a shower and both have ample built-in wardrobes.

Outside the sliding doors is a fabulous terrace which again runs the length of the kitchen, dining and lounge area and wraps around the end of the villa where you’ll find an external sun-screened dining area along with barbecue.

Internal stairs lead down from the lounge to the lower level to a wide hallway with two double rooms and french doors leading out onto the lower terrace and pool area. Both have spacious ensuite wet-room style shower rooms (one with bathtub) and large walk-in wardrobes.

A separate utility room with washing machine and hand washing sink is also conveniently located at this level. Hot water for the villa is provided by solar panels on the roof, supplemented by a gas boiler which also provides heat for the radiators. There is also a wood-burning stove in the lounge area making this a perfect villa for friends and family alike during the cooler months too.

From the outside dining area, there are external steps down to the spacious lower terrace and pool area. A garden overlooked from the kitchen and other areas close to the pool has been planted to provide colour and interest with herbs to help yourselves to. The land, as it falls away from the villa, is terraced with ancient dry stone walls and full of olive and almond trees, other indigenous plants, fig trees and vines.

The poolside terraces have been positioned to maximise all-day sunshine. There is also an outside shower.

To the side of the villa, there is ample parking for several cars. The villa is located at the end of a 200-metre track, please note the track is narrow in places and is better suited to smaller vehicles.

There is the added bonus of a small cultural centre, ‘La Luna nel Pozzo’ at the end of the track to Casa Calandra (within easy walking distance) where there is an amphitheatre showing plays for children and cultural events held throughout the summer weeks. Ostuni – just 4 kilometres away – has a host of high-quality shops, supermarkets and numerous bars, also restaurants, many of which are located in it's centro storico’ of enchanting cobbled alleyways winding their way up to the hill-top cathedral. Its famous street market is held every Saturday. At Casalini, a village slightly nearer in the opposite direction, are a couple of restaurants and bars and a well-stocked supermarket.

All four bedrooms have a/c.

We are confident Casa Calandra will make a fabulous base for a perfect holiday in this wonderful region of Italy.

What our guests say

Kerry S, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Our first time in Italy, we absolutely loved it. The villa was beautiful and Annie our rep was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, she recommended places to go, she even rung and booked a table in restaurants for us. We would certainly book through Essential Italy again; we will recommend it to family and friends. October 2023

Stella Wilkinson, Twickenham

The villa was lovely but we found the main room rather hot and if there had been bug screens there as in the bedrooms it would have been easier to leave the doors open. This was a minor issue really. The access road required confident driving skills but we were able to do lots of sight seeing as the villa is in a very good location, although Ostuni was so gorgeous we could happily have spent our whole week there! We made full use of the pool area, the outdoor furniture was very comfortable and the pool was clean. Overall a fantastic holiday made perfect by the detailed local knowledge of Annie who was a wonderful host. September 2023

Simon Jones, Oxfordshire

We had a wonderful holiday in a lovely villa, and it's very hard to think of anything that could have improved things! Many thanks to the Essential Italy team and especially to Annie in Puglia! February 2022

Annie Hayter, Brentford

Annie looked after us at Casa Calandra-she was superb. The property was stunning-even more so that in the pictures. Quite remote but a very beautiful location. August 2019

Emma Rossi, Bishop's Stortford

We enjoyed a wonderful week at Casa Calandra. The villa was well equipped and comfortable. Be aware that it is down a very narrow road so a smaller car is more suitable for reaching the house. The local town of Ostuni (about 5km away) is beautiful. Don't write off the small village of Caslini which is where the nearest shop is located. There is a small supermarket, a pharmacy and wonderful bakers that sells incredible pizza pies - which our 4 teenagers adored. A big thank you to Annie who looks after the house - she was a valuable source of information and absolutely lovely. We loved Puglia and will be back. July 2019

Keith Ducket, Harlow

This was such a special family holiday for seven adults - one of whom was 91 - and two twin babies but such was the scale and build of the house we never felt we were on top of each other. The building is architect designed and has many details one would not ordinarily find in a similar property. A fabulous place in a fabulous part of the world. Annie was a font of knowledge and couldn’t do enough for us.

Ann Tooze, Exeter

We had a lovely week in Puglia meeting up with our friends. There were 8 of us and the villa provided ample room for us all (including 4 lively children)... it was certainly a good starting point for visiting this beautiful area...

Alison Howe, Lostwithiel

A very enjoyable stay in a beautiful house. We would definitely return!
